Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles Tendonitis

What Causes Achilles Tendonitis?

The Achilles tendon is the largest and strongest tendon in the body. It runs from your heel and connects to your calf muscles, the gastrocnemius, and soleus. The tendon is protected at the heel by two bursae.

Achilles Tendon injuries can be serious, with overuse leading to tears and ruptures that can sideline you for several months.

Tendonitis is the bane of the weekend athlete who may place too much stress on the heel and then fail to stretch it after a workout. Tendonitis is caused by overuse. Too much running or walking can inflame the base of the tendon where it connects with the heel. Poor shoe choice can also aggravate an Achilles tendon. If you have high blood pressure or are taking antibiotics in the fluoroquinolone class, you may be prone to tendinopathy in your leg.

What are the symptoms of Achilles Tendonitis?

  • Mild ache at the rear of the leg
  • Pain above the heel
  • Tenderness or stiffness on waking

My tendonitis keeps coming back. Is there a non-surgical, non-steroidal and non-opioid treatment option out there?

Dr. Greenberg’s team will perform a Comprehensive Kinetic Diagnosis. We will carefully examine your knee, calf muscles, Achilles tendon and heel to fully understand the biomechanics of your leg, ankle and foot.

Depending on the condition of your Achilles tendon, Dr. Greenberg may recommend Kinetic Regeneration Therapy. It is a dynamic approach that seeks to naturally reverse Achilles tendon injuries by administering Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections which have proven to be very effective. PRP stimulates regenerative healing of the tendon and adjacent muscles, nerves and bursae. The team may palpate your calf and ankle to uncover undiagnosed damage which may also be causing you pain. We treat all of it. Kinetic Regeneration Therapy treats you holistically, renews you physically and seeks to rekindle a feeling of wellness so you become a healthier and happier YOU.

If you or a loved one is looking for a new strategy to treat chronic aches and pains, fill out the form on this page to schedule an appointment or call Dr. Greenberg’s office today at 833-440-4325.
