The hip bursae are small sacs that are filled with a gel-like fluid. They protect the bone structure of the hip. The Greater Trochanter bursa is located on the bony point of the hip bone. The iliopsoas bursa is on the groin side of the hip. When the bursae in the hip become inflamed, you have hip bursitis. The condition is more likely to affect women than men, and may be caused by bumping your hip against a table, a repetitive stress injury, spine disease, bone spurs, calcium deposits, leg length discrepancy, hip surgery or rheumatoid arthritis.

  • Stiffness in the hip, or sharp ache
  • Pain when the hip is pressed
  • Pain when you walk
  • Signs of redness and/or swelling
  • Fever
The long term success of Dr. Greenberg’s patients is attributed to a specialized approach to the examination process. Deemed “The Greenberg Method,” this diagnostic approach not only looks into the area of damage and pain, but also evaluates the mechanics and structure of the bone and joints related to the area of the pain. For example, we examine the bursa of the hip along with the ligament and tendon structures that connect the hip to the lower back and pelvis.Undiagnosed abnormalities in the feet and knees can cause excessive torque up the leg and contribute to premature wear on the hip joint, while pelvic tilt will also throw off the gait and cause abnormal rubbing over the bursa. While an isolated joint treatment ignores physiology and the evaluation of movement, The Greenberg Method’s full-body examination produces a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. In return, the patient experiences a greater reduction in pain and improvement in function, which helps them get back on their feet to resume their daily routines, pain free.

Dr. Scott Greenberg developed an alternative treatment protocol for treating bursitis. It is called The Greenberg Method (TGM). TGM is kinetic in that it stimulates the body’s ability to respond to injury. It is regenerative in that it naturally reduces inflammation of the bursae, supports the synovial joints of the hip and can strengthen bones structures.

TGM treatments are as minimally invasive as a blood draw and an injection and can be administered in the doctor’s office or surgery center. Dr. Greenberg’s The Greenberg Method uses Prolotherapy, Prolozone®, Platelet Rich Plasma and Stem Cell Therapy. He may suggest using one or a combination of the four.

A typical treatment occurs every few weeks. The treatments regenerate sinews, tendons, bursa, labrum and cartilage using the body’s own healing components. As the hip bursae heal and bones strengthen, the source of pain dissipates.

The Greenberg Method is an excellent choice for people who are looking for a non-invasive alternative to hip replacement surgery. TGM decreases infection risks, shortens recovery times and is opioid-free. We work with you holistically. We renew you physically and try to raise your personal sense of wellness so you become a healthier YOU.
