The labrum is located in the hip joint where it provides cushioning and stability for hip bones. It is composed of fibrocartilage which helps seal the joint in the socket and relieves pressure on the joint. The labrum can be torn in a fall or a car accident, or it can be damaged by a tackle in football or soccer. A labral tear can also be caused by hip abnormalities such as femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and hip dysplasia which both affect how the ball of the hip moves in the socket.

  • Sharp pain on the side of the hip where the tear is located.
  • Pain worsens when walking or running
  • Nightly pain
  • Clicking sound when the joint catches or locks up
The long term success of Dr. Greenberg’s patients is attributed to a specialized approach to the examination process. Deemed “The Greenberg Method,” this diagnostic approach not only looks into the area of damage and pain, but also evaluates the mechanics and structure of the bone and joints related to the area of the pain. For example, we examine the labram along with the ligament and tendon structures that connect the hip to the pelvis and groin. Undiagnosed abnormalities in the feet and knees can cause excessive torque up the leg and contribute to premature wear on the labral cartilage of the hip, while pelvic tilt will also throw off the gait and place abnormal pressure across the hip which could contribute to the tearing of the labrum. While an isolated joint treatment ignores physiology and the evaluation of movement, The Greenberg Method’s full-body examination produces a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. In return, the patient experiences a greater reduction in pain and improvement in function, which helps them get back on their feet to resume their daily routines, pain free.

Dr. Scott Greenberg is an expert at helping labrums and menisci to regenerate safely. His non-surgical treatments avoid the complications of invasive surgery such as muscle pain, infection risk, protracted recoveries and the use of opioids to manage pain.

To assess if regenerative treatments can help you, Dr. Scott Greenberg and his team will review your medical history and perform The Greenberg Method that includes a hands-on examination of the site of your hip, your pelvis, knees, ankles and feet. They will comprehensively try to understand why you tore a labrum and they will try to bring all of your musculoskeletal systems into balance so your hip does not get injured again.

His team may recommend The Greenberg Method (TGM) which is a non-surgical, proactive approach that seeks to repair all the soft tissues of your hip, not just the labrum. The Greenberg Method includes Prolotherapy, Platelet Rich Plasma Treatments and Stem Cell Treatments. Dr. Greenberg may suggest one or a combination of the three. All three treatment modalities are excellent alternatives to pain management or surgery.

TGM treatments are as minimally invasive as a blood draw and an injection. Dr. Greenberg will discuss the features of each treatment and explain the therapeutic option that is most appropriate for your case. The objective of the treatments is to help the body to naturally regenerate the labrum and reduce your hip pain.
