Stem Cell Therapy
Streamlines Tissue Regeneration

Stem Cell Therapy is a regenerative therapy which uses the body’s own mesenchymal stem cells and biological growth factors to heal and regenerate injured tissue such as ligaments, tendons, joints and cartilage. Theoretically, stem cells can regenerate every organ, muscle, vascular system and nerve pathway in the body. When combined with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment, a stem cell treatment is turbocharged with more growth factors and cells that have a greater ability to recruit the immune system to heal. The science behind Stem Cell therapy is constantly expanding and has demonstrated remarkable results. With Stem Cell Therapy, you are not just treating your symptoms, you are repairing yourself cell by cell using nature’s most outstanding biological miracle, the stem cell.

The long term success of Dr. Greenberg’s patients is attributed to a specialized approach of the examination process. Deemed “The Greenberg Method,” this strategy not only looks into the area of damage and pain, but also evaluates the mechanics and structure of the bone and joints related to the area of the pain. For example, a patient who comes in with a lower back problem explains that past treatment in the area has not brought any relief. However, after an examination of the back along with the pelvis, hips, knees, and feet via The Greenberg Method, Dr. Greenberg discovers that the pain is rooted in a pelvic tilt. While an isolated joint treatment ignores physiology and the evaluation of movement, The Greenberg Method’s full-body examination produces a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. In return, the patient experiences a greater reduction in pain and improvement in function, which helps them get back on their feet to resume their daily routines, pain free.

Mesenchymal stem cells are safe since they come from your own body! Mesenchymal stem cells are created in bone marrow but stored in highest concentrations in fat cells which makes them easy to harvest. They are multipotent stromal cells (meaning can do a lot of neat things!) that can include osteoblasts (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells), adipocytes (fat cells), myocytes (muscle cells), pericytes and endothelial cells(vascular system cells), neural progenitor cells (nerve tissue), and other components. Also, the presence of White Blood Cells, Macrophages and growth factors help reduce infections, promote proliferation of collagen and enhance growth. Since the mesenchymal cells are autologous, taken from the patient, there is a minuscule risk of rejection. This process is quite different than when compared to a bone marrow treatment, which contains some mesenchymal cells, but also contain hematopoietic cells that generate our blood cells, but do not generate tissue.
To assess if regenerative stem cell treatments can help you, Dr. Scott Greenberg and his team will review your medical history, pertinent radiographic studies such as X-rays and MRIs, and perform a comprehensive kinetic diagnosis known as the Greenberg Method that includes a hands-on examination of the site of your physical complaint and all areas related to it. The Greenberg Method seeks to identify not only the root cause of your pain, but will also look to correct any abnormal movement or adjacent joint damage that contributes to your pain. Using the Greenberg Method, we take a holistic look at your body, and not just repair a broken part.

Every patient is different, plus there are factors such as age, the severity of the injury, immune response, and the rate of healing to consider. For some patients, positive results may be felt within a week. Other patients may require several months of healing. It is essential to keep in mind that the treatment is activating your body to heal itself by regenerating soft tissue. You have to give the cell structures time to grow back. In our process, we augment our stem cell procedures with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) even after the initial treatment until we achieve optimal results. Prior to any treatment, Dr. Greenberg and his team will review the treatment plan designed to help you heal.

For the past twenty years, Dr. Greenberg has studied the behavior of stem cells and researched their complex nature. Since 1999, he has researched how tissue-specific stem cells function in the body, how they regenerate nerve, joint and tissue systems and how they depend on other blood components to heal an injury. He will typically perform several hundred stem cell procedures and a few thousand PRP treatments per year.

Dr. Greenberg is a pioneering leader in developing new stem cell-based therapies. He serves as the chair of the Institutional Review Board of the American Association of Stem Cell Physicians and is a founding board member. He is also a consulting physician for DSM, a leader in regenerative biological medicine. He was a member of the first team to publish case study to repair a meniscus tear using autologous stem cell therapy. Dr. Greenberg is a Medical Staff Member of The Bryn Mawr Hospital and an affiliate of The Main Line Health Dee Adams Center for Integrative and Regenerative Medicine at Bryn Mawr. Additionally he serves as a Clinical Professor at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Doctor Greenberg is a member of the American College for the Advancement in Medicine and a member of the American Association of Orthopedic Medicine. He holds Board Certification in Family Practice and is a recipient of the Physicians Recognition Award from the American Medical Association. He is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Greenberg is the developer of the Greenberg Method, a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment strategy that not only looks at the area of damage and pain, but looks at the mechanics and structure of the bones and joints adjacent to and related to the area of pain.

For example, when one comes in with a lower back problem, utilizing the Greenberg Method we will evaluate and treat not only the low back, but other areas of damage that can cause the lower back pain which may occur from pelvic tilt or undiagnosed injury in the foot, knee or hip.

In Dr. Greenberg’s experience, using a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan of the Greenberg Method helps to produce a greater reduction in pain and improvement in function compared to an isolated joint treatment that ignores physiology and evaluation of movement and posture.
