Regenerative Medicine: A Holistic Approach to Chronic Pain Relief

Chronic pain affects millions of people, often forcing them to rely on invasive surgeries with uncertain outcomes and long recovery periods. However, regenerative medicine offers a different approach—one that focuses on repairing the underlying damage in the body that causes the pain, rather than solely treating the pain at its site. This holistic approach combined with the regenerative therapies we employ helps us consistently achieve our main goal here at Greenberg Regenerative Medicine: to help our patients find long-term relief for their pain, and get them back to doing the things they love.

How Regenerative Medicine Addresses Chronic Pain

At GRM, Dr. Greenberg uses regenerative methods like prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), stem cells, and very small embryonic-like stem cells (VSELs) to target the root causes of chronic pain. These therapies work by stimulating the body’s natural healing processes to repair damaged ligament and tendon structures and provide joint support.

One of the key insights from Dr. Greenberg’s method of examination is that pain often originates from multiple, interconnected sources, not just the site where it is felt. For example, an undiagnosed lateral pelvic tilt is often the hidden root cause of chronic back pain. At GRM, we’ve found that addressing pelvic alignment and overall balance is essential for long-term relief, and is far more effective than focusing solely on spinal treatments.

A Real Patient Success Story

Dr. Greenberg shares the story of a patient of his, who found Greenberg Regenerative Medicine as his “last resort” for his chronic back pain when other traditional methods proved unsuccessful. The patient had already undergone a three-level spinal fusion, yet his pain and weakness only worsened over the years. He became unable to walk without a cane or walker, and experienced significant muscle atrophy in his quads due to spinal nerve damage. While traditional doctors recommended a T10 fusion, a surgery with an extensive two-year recovery time, regenerative medicine offered him a different path.

By using PRP, prolotherapy, and VSEL therapy, we were able to:

  • Rebuild the ligament structures of the patient’s Activating VSEL Cellsspine
  • Rebalance the pelvis
  • Restore the patient’s leg strength

Within weeks, our patient was back to walking without assistance, and after two months, his muscle atrophy resolved—a stark contrast to the bleak prognosis given by traditional medicine. There’s nothing that brings us greater joy than helping our patients achieve a pain-free life.

A Personal Journey: From Chronic Pain to Healing

One reason Dr. Greenberg is so passionate about bringing relief to his patients through his practice is because he understands firsthand how life-changing regenerative medicine can be.

At 18, Dr. Greenberg was hit by a drunk driver. For the next 10 years, he would suffer from chronic headaches—what we now understand to be postconcussion syndrome—yet he found no real answers to his pain through conventional medicine. Dr. Greenberg recalls this debilitating period, sharing his difficulties focusing, studying for his medical examinations without intense pain, and even seeing properly.

It wasn’t until Dr. Greenberg trained in regenerative medicine that he realized the source of his pain. His self-examination led him to discover that the right side of his head and neck were very tender, and that his headaches were coming from his neck and base of his skull.

What Dr. Greenberg did next is what changed his life—and those of others—for the better. He shares:

“I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. After waking up in the middle of the night with such unbearable pain for what felt like the thousandth time, I went into my office to postulate a solution to my tissue damage. Using prolotherapy, I injected myself in the joints I believed were damaged. After a few months of treatment, all of my problems I had for 10 years, including my headaches and my vision loss, were gone.”

Dr. Greenberg immediately understood the unequivocal impacts of a pain-free life, and knew that if he could heal himself, he could also spread this relief to his patients. This is what solidified his mission in the field of regenerative medicine.

Advice for Those Considering Regenerative Medicine

If you’re struggling with chronic pain and considering regenerative medicine, it’s important to understand that experience matters when choosing a medical professional. Many doctors are new to the field, who may not understand that stem cells are not a magic cure-all—they need to be used ethically and precisely. While some practices use illegal placental stem cells, Greenberg Regenerative Medicine uses autologous stem cells derived directly from the patient.

At our practice, we often see patients who have tried everything else with no success—yet regenerative medicine has given them lasting relief. If you’re searching for a solution beyond temporary fixes, it’s time to explore what regenerative medicine can do for you.
